Your exterior design should be a complimentary part of your interior. So, light it up like a Pro!
It’s easier than you think, start with analyzing the architectural layout of your property and that will set the foundation for how your space should be lit. Your backyard should have a flexible layout that allows for free flow of partying, grilling, playing or relaxing and socializing. This is a whole experience that is worth capturing and you know that awesome pictures come with good lighting, so, let’s set the mood to the brightness we desire.

This is where your floorplan takes the forefront. Your lighting plan should be guided by your furniture plan. Wherever functional spaces are assigned good task lighting is required. The wonderful thing about outdoors though is lighting use can be playful, flexible, and functional. Take for instance a firepit, useful for creating a center piece for conversational areas but also functional for providing heat, light and a cooking source, I mean let’s not forget, food is a MUST!
However, this is better suited for the backyard. In reverse, a simple candle lantern will suffice to light up the front yard with the same effect but less intensity. Here is a great tip for creating that ultimate lighting experience..............Use of Mix Lighting Styles
Whether it be floor up lights, plant lights, wall sconces, staircase lights, firepits, pool lights or hanging lights they all can be used in one space with different impact based on lumens intensity, scale or size and style.
Wall sconces seem to be one of the most used lighting styles for outdoors. They create markings for parking spots, or feature walls and other functional use. Those same areas you can opt from wall sconces and use floor up lights. Don’t limit yourself, the different effects you can achieve by using varied lighting sources can really enhance your outdoor ambiance. Outdoors truest form is at night so lighting isn’t required to be intensely bright or glaring.
Be modest and don’t over light your space but remember being basic is not apart of the required recipe.
